Tim (aka DEMO DISK) and I first met each other on the set of Box Hill High School’s production of Grease. A year 7 to my year 8, I recall our first conversation outside the basketball court-cum-rehearsal theatre revolving around the unapparelled ergonomic nightmare that was the Nintendo DS Guitar Hero attachment. A friendship born out of a love of rock music and handheld gaming devices.
Fast forward a few years and our guitar hero dreams were starting to manifest in the form of a high school rock band. After school evenings and weekends were spent rehearsing, recording, and playing, peaking at 3rd place in the hotly contested high school talent show.
Graduation, a couple of share-houses, bands and who knows how many gigs later, Tim begins work on his first solo album. Feared lost to the recordings for some months, Tim finally surfaced in early 2022 with a bounty of songs – rock music but with the humour and good nature that I’ve come to treasure from my best mate.
‘Above Myself’ feels like a fitting debut, a song that our former kid-selves would be proud of.
DEMO DISK will be closing out 2022 with the release of the debut single 'Above Myself' at The Evelyn Hotel on Sunday 18th December, with friends Private Mountain and Porcelain Dove (DJ).
